I am Black. Legacy Pin Collection
$12.00
Description
Black Lives Matter: The phrase “Black Lives Matter” is engraved along with hearts and magic, reminding us that WE matter and our MAGIC matters. This pin is inspired by the BLM movement started in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. It’s a phrase we cry out for the protection of our community. It’s a reminder for those who wear the pin proudly, and those that see it, that we have and will ALWAYS matter. (Source: Black Lives Matter)
good trouble: The phrase “good trouble” is engraved along with a single fist in the air. This pin is inspired by the good fight and mantra from late Civil Rights leader and Congressman John Lewis. He was always told to “stay out of trouble” growing up, and eventually used this phrase as a way to elevate Civil Rights. (Source: Nat’l Endowment for the Arts)
lift every voice: The phrase “lift every voice” is engraved along with 3 fists in the air, representing the liberation of Black voices in America. This pin is inspired by “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Often referred to as “The Black National Anthem,” Lift Every Voice and Sing was a hymn written as a poem by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson in 1900. His brother, John Rosamond Johnson (1873-1954), composed the music for the lyrics. (Source: NAACP)
