Our family enjoyed a first-time visit to the Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel this summer and the stay was a fun time for our large family of seven! It's not the easiest to find accommodations that can fit us in one room or suite that won't break the bank. We also love finding places to ball on a budget without giving up comfort and amenities that everyone can enjoy.

Enter the HoJo Anaheim!

Right off the I-5 Freeway and Harbor Boulevard, you can't miss the HoJo. Its 7-acre property is home to almost 300 superior rooms and suites and is considered a "Moderate First Class" hotel. The HoJo is award-winning from TripAdvisor.com, Travel + Leisure Magazine, and the Howard Johnson Hotels.

Room Types

The HoJo has 4 room categories with multiple room types in each. We stayed in a Premium 2 Queen/2 Queen bundle which is 2 adjoining rooms for those of us with large families, or if you're planning a trip for more than 5 people. These rooms are available upon request and by availability only. I do suggest calling 1-800-GetAway and make sure to mention Sparks of Magic when you book. 2 night or more stays will receive a discount. We had great views of the Parks and even saw fireworks from our room.

House of the Retro Future

This is a special 700 square foot themed suite that was completely renovated and inspired by Monsanto's House of the Future in the 60s! This is also one of HoJo's largest suites, and can comfortably sleep up to 4 people. Bedding is a dream with 2 Dreamscape pillow-top queen beds in one room, a separate living/dining room, and one balcony that overlooks the Garden pool.

Amenities you'll love:

  • Most comfortable hotel beds in the US (Travel + Leisure Magazine, but I can vouch that they are very comfy)

  • "Castaway Cove" pirate-themed water playground with a 30-foot pirate ship, slides, & water cannons

  • Heated outdoor pool, Whirlpool spa, and Children's pool

  • Dining discount at Mimi's Cafe (across the street) and walking distance (3-10 minutes) to many table service and fast food restaurants

  • Distance - 8-10 minutes average walk, Park views (including fireworks in some rooms)

  • On-site gift shop with all the amenities and things you may have forgotten

  • It's easy to DoorDash or UberEats if you don't want to leave property

  • Guest Service is magical, anytime we had questions or needed support we were always met with friendly staff!
